Greetings for this week of February 6 – February 12, 2012
Do you ever miss singing the “old familiar gospel hymns” which
many of us remember from our youth? I want to give you a
SPECIAL INVITATION for next Sunday evening at First Christian
Church here in New Martinsville. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. we are
going to gather in our sanctuary for a good “Old Fashioned Gospel
Sing Along.” This will be followed by a home-made pie social in our
fellowship hall. You get to pick both the hymns and the kind of pie
you want and it should be a wonderful evening of singing and
fellowshipping! So…invite your friends, bring your best voice, and
let us spend an evening “singing our faith!” Sometimes we spend
so much time studying our faith or explaining our faith, our debating
our faith, that we forget to sing and dance our faith. See you next
Sunday evening for celebrating our faith in gospel song!
On another “note:” We celebrated two baptisms last Sunday in our
morning worship! Blessings to those who were baptized. A
question for you: Do you remember your baptism? If you have
questions about the sacraments of Baptism or Holy Communion,
feel free to contact me.
Blessings in your life this week.

Sermon Summary (February 5th, 2012)

"A Pretty Good Church"
We invite you to come and get to know us
Our Sunday sermons during Epiphany are focusing on The Word and our words. We have been talking
about the Christian life as a way of “speaking.” This past Sunday I reflected on The Word and
Enchantment. To be enchanted is to be moved deeply, to be spellbound, to be enthralled. In our
“rational world” we sometimes forget the whole role of wonder and mystery and awe in the life of faith.
When was the last time you simply fell to your knees at the wonder of God’s love and the promises of
hope within the ups and downs of life. The gospel is an invitation to a new world of good news created
by the enchanting, imaginative world of Jesus’ vision for abundant life. Let’s not only “study our faith”
(which is important), but let us “sing and dance and celebrate our faith” as well.
